Kanazawa is one of the few remaining old castle towns.
We went to the Yasue Gold Leaf Museum where they showed how gold
leaf was made. The demonstration included a serving of Japanese
green tea with flakes of gold leaf in it!
We also went to the Ono Karakuri Museum - with mechanical dolls
made from wood around 1830s.
The Higashichaya area has many old houses which were former Geisha
houses.
The must-see place in Kanazawa is the Kenroku-en, the Garden of
six sublimities: spaciousness, seclusion, human ingenuity, antiquity,
water and panoramic views. The Kanazawa Kenroku-en.is listed as
one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan and this is a popular
tourist spot with the Japanese.
